My tattoo that says "Let's Get Lost"

I know that a lot of full time RVers are somewhat (or completely) spontaneous with their travel plans. But, in our first few months of RV living, we learned that it works better for us if most of the year's travels are planned out in advance.

Not that we won't change our minds if we get somewhere and don't want to be there. We do have a house on wheels, after all. 😊

So, after much research, planning, and reservation making, our 2021 itinerary is pretty well set.

It is my goal this year to share much of our travels here, on this blog. And, who knows? I might even have the opportunity to meet up with some of you along the way.

Check out this article about RV Trip Planning for more about our travel planning process including tips and some of the RV trip planning tools we find helpful.

Our 2021 Travel Schedule

January

After spending the holidays with family in Colorado, we are heading south in search of warmer weather this month.

  • From the 10th through the 16th we'll be boondocking in Ironwood Forest National Monument in Arizona
  • On January 16th, we'll arrive in Desert Hot Springs, CA, where we'll stay through the end of the month.

February

  • We'll spend the first two weeks of the month in San Diego. We've spent a lot of time in California over the years, but never been to San Diego. We are excited to get to know the city!
  • We'll head to Arizona for the second half of the month, boondocking around Phoenix and Scottsdale.

March

  • We'll be back in Colorado in March, spending the first three weeks in Lyons at a campground that is becoming our Colorado home base.
  • Towards the end of the month, we'll head to Utah, boondocking in the North-Eastern part of the state, near Green River and Ashley National Forest.

April

  • We'll spend the first part of April on Antelope Island, a penninsula that extends out into the Great Salt Lake in Utah. We spend one night here last year and vowed to come back and spend more time. The "island" is quiet, full of wildlife and hiking trails, and surrounded by water.
  • After leaving Antelope Island, we'll head to Caldwell, Idaho for a week before moving on to Oregon.
  • We'll spend the last week of the month boondocking at the base of Mount Hood in Oregon.

May

  • We'll spend the first three weeks of May in Nehalem, Oregon, in a campground that's right on the Oregon coast.
  • At the end of the month, we'll head to Seattle, Washington, where we'll stay through the first week of June.

June

  • After spending the first week of the month in Seattle, we'll head up to Rockport, Washington for most of the rest of the month.
  • At the end of the month, we'll move on to Republic, Washington.

July

  • We'll spend the first half of the month in Republic, Washington, then fly to Alaska for a week's vacation with our daughters.
  • When we return from Alaska, we'll head to Polson, Montana, near Glacier National Park.

August

  • We'll spend the first three weeks of the month at a couple of campgrounds near Glacier National Park.
  • After leaving Glacier National Park, we'll head to Henry's Lake State Park in Idaho where we'll stay for the rest of the month and into the first week of September.

September

In September, we'll head back to Colorado, spending the first three weeks of the month in Lyons and the last week at Dillion Reservoir.

October

  • We'll spend the first half of October in Palisade, Colorado. Palisade is an incredibly beaudiful area near Grand Junction that's full of orchards and vineyards. We spend a lot of time there in 2020 and can't wait to go back.
  • Mid-October, we'll head to The Little Grand Canyon in Utah to boondock on The Wedge Overlook.

November and December

After spending the first two weeks of November at Dead Horse Point State Park in Utah, we'll head back to Lyons, CO, where we'll stay for the rest of the year.

My husband and I were full-time rvers in a 38' Dutch Star motorhome, towing a car for 6 1/2 years (1996-2003). We sold our house in Chattanooga, TN, and most of our belongings, stored the rest and hit the road. We traveled Canada, Mexico and the USA, from coast to coast. We stayed, mostly in rv parks along the way but did boon dock some and overnighted in parking lots from point A to point B. We loved it. Deciding to settle down again in a house was difficult and we often miss the freedom of motorhoming. Enjoy your travels and best of luck! I look forward to trying some of your recipes.

What a wonderful story about your 20 months of travel. It brings back memories of our 10 years of full time motorhoming. Them we traded motorhoming for time spent at Living Waters Spa each winter. Jeff and Judy ran the finest spa around. We'd love to visit with you the next time you are in Grand Junction. Love your recipes too.

So great to hear from you Del! We would love to see you both the next time we are in Grand Junction. We just spent two weeks in Desert Hot Springs with Jeff and Judy and have so many wonderful memories of the spa. I hope you and Joe are doing well! Much love to you both! xo
